Duchess Theatre, Fences ReviewLenny Henry

From Jane Shilling…

Crikey! Is that really Lenny Henry bestriding the stage of the Duchess Theatre like a beardy Colossus? When Paulette Randall’s production of August Wilson’s Fences premiered in Bath earlier this year, my colleague Charles Spencer described Henry’s performance as “magnificent”, so expectations of the play’s West End transfer are high. What you don’t expect is to find Henry entirely unrecognisable in the physically and morally immense character he embodies.
